Harry Donald Carson 

1972 graduate of McClenaghan High School

Harry was born in Florence on November 26, 1953

    1) Attended South Carolina State 1972-1976 on Football scholarship where he played for Coach Willie Jeffries.

        a) Two time Captain and never missed a game during his career.

        b) Voted to the Kodak All-American Team.

        c) Voted to the NAIA All American Team.

        d) Voted to the Pittsburgh Courier All American Team.

        e) All State Team member.

        f) All Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

        g) MEAC Defensive Player of the Year twice. (1974 & 1975)

        h) Was awarded for highest academic average among Black College All Americans.

        i) Member of the South Carolina State Athletic Hall of Fame.

        j) Member of the Mid-Eastern athletic Conference Hall of Fame

    2) Drafted by the New York Giants in 1976 in the 4th round and retired in 1988. (13 seasons)

        a) Team captain for 10 years with Giants.

        b) Played on 1986 Super Bowl Champion Team as the Giants defeated the Broncos 39-20.

        c) Rated the #1 “Inside Linebacker” in NFL History by Pro Football Weekly.

        d) Named to the All-Rookie Team after his first season – 1976.

        e) Named to the All-NFL Team 7 times.

        f) Named to the All-NFC Team 8 times.

        g) Named NFC Linebacker of the year twice 1978 & 1979.

        h) Selected by his peers to the NFC-AFC Pro Bowl 9 times.

        i) Is listed in the top 300 players to ever play in the NFL.

        j) Ranks 3rd in Giants history with 14 fumble recoveries.

m) Recognized as the South Carolina College Athlete of the Millennium by the State Newspaper.

        n) Recognized as a Kentucky Colonel.

        o) Presented the “Order of the Palmetto”, the highest honor given to a native of South Carolina.

        p) Recognized motivational speaker and on concussions in sports and is on numerous medical advisory boards.

        q) Represented the United States as a Goodwill Ambassador to France and serves on numerous sports and fitness committees and charities.

        r) Harry has co-hosted CNN’s NFL Preview, appeared on WCBS as a Broadcast Analyst and has been a Special Correspondent for playoffs and the Super Bowl on ABC-TV’s Good Morning America. He has also been on ABC Sports College Football & New York’s Madison Square Garden network.

        s) Harry has had acting roles on the daytime television shows “The Guiding Light”, “One Life To Live” & “Loving”. He has also been on game shows “Double Dare” with his daughter Aja where they donated their winnings to terminally ill children’s research.

        t) Awarded Walter Camp Foundation 2011 "Man of the Year"

 Harry is affiliated with many organizations and is involved with numerous charities such as the United Way, The United way’s Celebrity Read Program, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Boy Scouts of America, The Young Father’s Program at UMDDNJ, The Literacy Council of New Jersey, Habitat for Humanity, The Tomorrow’s Children Fund, MANetc.& the Autism Coalition. He is a honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa International Society, member of the NCAA Honor Committee and currently serves as a Board member of the New York State Special Olympics.

Harry now lives in New Jersey where he is CEO and President of Harry Carson, Inc., a Sports Consulting and Promotions Company.
