Thomas Leon Johnson

  • Graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1969
  • Graduated from Francis Marion University in 1973 with a Degree in Social Studies
  • Lettered in baseball and basketball at McClenaghan and FMU
  • Was first two sport letterman in Francis Marion University history
  • Began his coaching career at Wilson High School in 1973 where his JV Basketball teams won 63 consecutive games
  • Served as Head Baseball Coach 1973-79 and in 1977, Wilson won their first Region Championship and he was named “Coach of the Year”
  • 1979-1989 was the Head Basketball Coach at West Florence High School where they were Region Champion 4 times and advanced to Lower State Finals in 1985
  • Head Coach of WF Basketball Team that won State Championship in 1986
  • Served as Head Basketball Coach at Wilson from1991-2004 where he was 7 time  “Coach of the Year”  
  • Wilson Basketball team played in the Lower State finals 3 times in 1996, 2000 & 2004
  • Wilson Basketball team were Region Champs in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003 & 2004
  • Region Coach of the Year 7 times in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005
  • Served as Head Golf Coach at Wilson in1998-2000
  • Served as Head Girls Tennis Coach in 2001-2004
  • Girls Tennis Team won their first Region Championship in 2004 and he was voted “Coach of the Year”
  • Asst. Coach for the North/South All Star Basketball Game in 2000 and Head Coach in 2005
  • Head Coach for the SC/NC All Star Basketball Game in 2010
  • Co-Head Coach for the Southern Hoops Classic- Orlando, Florida
  • Asst. Basketball Coach for 17 & U team- Albert Schweitzer Games in Manheim, Germany
  • Elected Member of Beach Ball Classic Hall of Fame- 2004
  • Served as President of S. C. Basketball Coaches Association
  • Served as President of  S. C. Athletic Administrators
