William (Scooby) Roosevelt Long

  • Graduated from Bell Street High School in Union, S. C. in 1950
  • Graduated from Voorhees Technical College in 1952 with Degree in Physical Science/Health
  • Graduated from Allen University in 1954 with a B.S. in Physical Education
  • Graduated from Indiana University in 1962 with Masters Degree in P.E./Health
  • Spent 2 years in Germany with the 9th Division HQ
  • Received a full football scholarship to Voorhees after High School and was captain of the 1951 undefeated team
  • Began his coaching career at Union High school as Head Track Coach & Asst. Football Coach in 1956
  • Asst. Football Coach on 1956 Union State Championship Football Team
  • Came to Wilson High School in 1964 as Head Football Coach in Football and Track
  • Served as Head Football Coach for 5 years and Asst. Football for 27 years at Wilson
  • Served as Head Track & Field Coach for 27 years where Wilson finished 2nd and 4th at the State Finals
  • In Track, he won the Region 14 times and was voted “Coach of the Year” 14 times
  • Served 21 years as Wilson High School Athletic Director   (1974-1994)
  • Member of the Wilson High School Hall of Fame
  • In 1991, the Wilson High School athletic fields were named in his honor
  • Original member of the Florence Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors- 2004
