Attended Emory University & Wofford on Athletic Scholarship where he lettered in four sports,
baseball, basketball, football & track. He is the last four letterman to graduate
from Wofford.
Played semi‐pro baseball for one year following graduation from Wofford
Started coaching football as an Asst. at Aynor High School in 1947 and also at Marion and at
Florence High School in 1950‐52. Became the Head Coach at McClenaghan in 1954 and coached
thru 1976 and then at Clarendon Hall for 1978‐1979. (28 years of High School
athletics) He also coached baseball and basketball at McClenaghan.
Head Coach of State Champion 1955 football team at McClenaghan, 11‐0 and Asst. Coach
on 1950 State Championship team, 11‐0
Asst. Coach with Shrine Bowl team in 1959 and served as Head Coach in 1964 with South Carolina
winning 20‐6
South Carolina High School “Coach of the Year” in 1955
Honorably discharged from military as a Major where he served in the U.S. Marines in
Okinawa and Korean War and National Guard after active duty
