William “Scooby” Roosevelt Long
- Graduated from Bell Street High School in Union, S. C. in 1950
- Graduated from Voorhees Technical College in 1952 with Degree in Physical Science/Health
- Graduated from Allen University in 1954 with a B.S. in Physical Education
- Graduated from Indiana University in 1962 with Masters Degree in
P.E./Health
- Spent 2 years in Germany with the 9th Division HQ
- Received a full football scholarship to Voorhees after High School and was captain of the
1951 undefeated team
- Career
- Began his coaching career at Union High school as Head Track Coach &
Asst. Football Coach in 1956
- Asst. Football Coach on 1956 Union State Championship Football Team
- Wilson High School
- Came to Wilson High School in 1964 as Head Football Coach in Football and
Track
- Served as Head Football Coach for 5 years and Asst. Football for 27
years
- In Track, he won the Region 14 times and was voted “Coach of the
Year” 14 times
- Served 21 years as Wilson High School Athletic Director
(1974‐1994)
- Member of the Wilson High School Hall of Fame
- In 1991, the Wilson High School athletic fields were named in his
honor
- Original member of the Florence Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors

- Served as Head Track and Field Coach for 27 years where Wilson finished 2nd
and 4th at the State Finals
