William “Scooby” Roosevelt Long

Graduated from Bell Street High School in Union, S. C. in 1950
Graduated from Voorhees Technical College in 1952 with Degree in Physical Science/Health
Graduated from Allen University in 1954 with a B.S. in Physical Education
Graduated from Indiana University in 1962 with Masters Degree in P.E./Health

Received a full football scholarship to Voorhees after High School and was captain of the 1951 undefeated team

Began his coaching career at Union High school as Head Track Coach & Asst. Football Coach in 1956
Asst. Football Coach on 1956 Union State Championship Football Team
Wilson High School

Came to Wilson High School in 1964 as Head Football Coach in Football and Track
Served as Head Football Coach for 5 years and Asst. Football for 27 years
In Track, he won the Region 14 times and was voted “Coach of the Year” 14 times
Served 21 years as Wilson High School Athletic Director (1974‐1994)
Member of the Wilson High School Hall of Fame
In 1991, the Wilson High School athletic fields were named in his honor
Original member of the Florence Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors ‐ 2004
Served as Head Track and Field Coach for 27 years where Wilson finished 2nd and 4th at the State Finals
